Choose a target file size
Many websites, online job applications, government portals, and email services strictly enforce maximum file size limits. Instead of guessing quality sliders, our tool automatically calculates the exact quality percentage needed:
Common limits for signature photos, identification icons, and thumbnail badges on government forms and older application portals.
Standard requirement for resume attachments, digital document uploads, and blog article inline images.
Recommended target for email attachments and hero banners to ensure instant delivery and fast loading speeds.
What happens when the target is too small
Every image has a physical lower limit. For example, a 4000×3000 high-resolution photo contains 12 million pixels. Even at the lowest quality setting (5%), the file size might remain around 45 KB.
Unlike other converters that silently downscale your image to a tiny blur without telling you, our tool never alters your pixel dimensions without your explicit consent. If your chosen target cannot be reached at 100% resolution, you can choose to:
- Scale Dimensions to 75% or 50%: Downscale the pixel resolution proportionally to easily hit smaller targets like 20 KB.
- Switch to WebP: Take advantage of WebP's superior compression algorithm to fit more detail into fewer kilobytes.
- Increase Target Limit: Adjust the threshold to match the natural complexity of the photo.
JPG, PNG, and WebP behave differently
Choosing the right file format is critical when aiming for a specific target size:
JPEG / JPG
Best for photographs and continuous-tone images. Allows fine-grained quality adjustments between 5% and 98% to hit exact KB targets.
WebP
Modern replacement for both JPEG and PNG. Supports full alpha transparency and delivers approximately 30% smaller sizes than JPEG at the same visual quality.
PNG
Lossless format with zero compression artifacts. Because it does not discard visual data, it cannot guarantee arbitrary small target sizes without reducing pixel dimensions.
Compress for email, forms, and websites
Whether preparing attachments for Outlook and Gmail, uploading profile photos to application forms, or optimizing hero graphics for your website, compressing to a known KB limit ensures smooth, error-free transfers.
